Introducing a new visual design language for renewable energy that provides consistency across multiple digital and physical touchpoints.


Introduction

Enphase is a global solar energy company that offers a range of products including microinverters, battery storage, apps, and software for control and monitoring. With a diverse target audience consisting of installers and homeowners, the challenge lies in curating relevant content for each group and effectively delivering complex technical information and stories.

To address this challenge, we adopted a clear and focused approach for each audience. For homeowners, our primary goal was to communicate the core values of energy independence and safe energy at home, rather than merely focusing on product features. By utilizing storytelling techniques, we aimed to connect with homeowners on an emotional level, illustrating how Enphase can positively impact their lives.

On the other hand, for installers, we recognized the importance of providing practical tools to support their businesses at every stage. We developed a range of installer-centric resources, including a local installer finder, module compatibility calculator, system estimator, documentation center, and EV-charger selector. These tools empower installers, streamlining their operations and demonstrating our commitment to their success.


Design system

Our design system was built upon the harmonious interplay of product and purpose, with a strong emphasis on focus, clarity, and simplicity as our guiding UX principles. These principles enabled us to assist Enphase in crafting captivating narratives that struck a balance between evoking emotional responses and fostering rational comprehension. Our overarching objective of creating a unified digital experience led us to meticulously eliminate any extraneous elements that did not contribute to our larger goal.

Our aim for homeowners is to convey a story of energy independence and inspire visitors to join the community for the greater good, while highlighting why Enphase is the superior choice. Investing in a solar and battery system is a significant decision with long-term benefits. Enphase offers the smartest, safest, and most reliable technology, along with a strong community. The website serves as the gateway for customers to connect with installers. Therefore, our strategy focuses on delivering the brand's core message, showcasing the complete system, and providing a user-friendly way to find installers, rather than solely discussing financial aspects.

The installer plays a crucial role in brand communication. Ensuring they have a compelling communication kit is essential for success. We assisted Enphase in developing digital tools such as product compatibility, documentation center, system calculator, and more. Additionally, we completely redesigned printing materials including the Quick Installer Guide, Data Sheet, and other resources.

For brands, there are limited channels through which they can directly communicate with customers. Developing an engaging content strategy becomes vital when you have the chance to connect with real customers.
It's essential to deliver the core message at a glance, and that's why we create captivating illustrations that are impossible to overlook.


Managing content at a global scale

Enphase's product launches have reached more than 14 countries across 4 continents, signifying its global presence. One of the most formidable tasks we undertook was implementing a comprehensive visual and content update on a global scale. This endeavor posed numerous challenges, but we successfully established a robust foundation for the entire process and project management.

To streamline communication and gather feedback efficiently, we utilized Figma as a platform for collecting input from multiple stakeholders on various webpages. We received over 5,000 comments encompassing content, visual assets, and coding issues, which were then imported into Notion for internal task management and client communication purposes. This approach proved instrumental in effectively managing the project and fostering seamless collaboration throughout the entire process.
